The Tiffany Workshop - Ultrasonic surgery

The Tiffany Yellow Diamond is one of the largest yellow diamonds ever discovered; it weighed 287.42 carats (57.484 g) in the rough when discovered in 1878 in the Kimberley mine in South Africa, and was cut into a cushion shape of 128.54 carats (25.708 g) with 90 facets—32 more than a traditional round brilliant—to maximize its brilliance.

Summary/Goal :
Ultrasonic Surgery with its minimal invasive approach is either for the patients as well as for the surgeon beneficial.Due to less bleeding, better visibility and faster healing it simplifies oral surgery tremendously and reduces the postoperative complains of the patient. In this course the large indication range and application is demonstrated and emphasizes the potency of replacing rotative driven oral surgery in the future. The participants will performed osseous surgery (Bone block graft, periodontal surgery, intra-lift) on pork jaw and models, using the Implant Center™ 2 (Satelec, Aceton).

The Sancy Workshop - Microscopic surgery

The Sancy, a pale yellow diamond of 55.23 carats (11.05 g),was once reputed to have belonged to the Great Moguls of antiquity, but is more likely of Indian origin owing to its cut which is unusual by Western standards. The shield-shaped stone comprises two back-to-back crowns (the typical upper half of a stone) but lacks any semblance to a pavilion (the lower portion of a stone, below the girdle or midsection).

Summary/Goal :
Periodontal plastic surgery for the treatment results of soft tissue augmentation procedures and periodontal reconstructive surgeries may be highly variable and technique sensitive.
Unfavourable wound healing that leads to fibrosis, scar tissue formation and tissue necrosis jeopardizes the esthetic outcome after any surgical intervention. Furthermore, with respect to time and predictability, healing processes that take place in a secondary wound healing, seem to be disadvantageous compared to healing by primary intention. In order to obtain healing by primary intention, precise flap closure is the key.
Magnification can be an important factor when precise surgical interventions are needed for an optimal outcome.
The basic tenants in this hands-on course will be learning atraumatic technique, clean incisions, accurate suturing and precise wound closure under magnification with loupes or surgical microscope. Several mucogingival procedures will be demonstrated on porcine heads in a microsurgical approach (loupes and microscope).

The Florentine Workshop - Guided surgery

The Florentine Diamond is a lost diamond of Indian origin. It is light yellow in colour with very slight green overtones. It is cut in the form of an irregular (although very intricate) nine-sided 126-facet double rose cut, with a weight of 137.27 carats (27.454 g). The stone is also known as the Tuscan, the Tuscany Diamond, the Grand Duke of Tuscany, the Austrian Diamond and the Austrian Yellow Diamond.

Summary/Goal :
Guided implant surgery can be useful in cases with a critical bone volume or anatomy where a unique implant positioning is mandatory or in cases where implants are placed with a minimal surgical exposure of bone or flapless approach. This technique can offer implant treatment to patients who would be excluded for conventional implant procedures.
However, guided implant surgery has limitations regarding its accuracy requiring careful implementation of this technique. This workshop will describe the possibilities of 3D-radiographic Imaging, indications and limitations of implant guided surgery and will be concluded with a practical hands-on on virtual implant planning with models.
